If you came to school Friday, you took a “check in” survey.  Many of you had no questions, which is great–but 99% reported that you have not started your writing assignments.

For a final time, I want to remind you of what is expected:

**Project due MAY 1st (which is a week from Friday).  During class, you’ll turn in your reading calender, your writing work sheet (these two sheets are back to back), and you should have completed your book, all writing assignments, and comments.**

Late work will result in a lowering of your grade.  You’ve had (will have) a month to complete this assignment…so please get motivated and complete it.

I’d like EVERYONE who has a wordpress blog to leave me a comment and tell me:

a) How far have your read in your book?

b) How many writing assignments have you completed?

c) How many comments have you left for your partner?

I expect that all of these will be in by Wednesday.

One final thing:  PLEASE CHANGE YOUR BLOG’S NAME SO I CAN TELL WHO YOU ARE!   Many of you have names like “highfiveman757″ and I have no clue who that is or what class you’re from.  The instructions of how to do so are on my page a few posts down.

Second: Be sure to add your partner and I to your blogroll by tomorrow.

Many of you created a page with a “Blog Title” that I cannot understand.  I need you to change this.  I MUST be able to figure out who you are, otherwise I cannot keep track OR give you credit for the work.

Here’s how to make the change:

-Go to settings

-Click on “general”

-Scroll down until you see “Blog Title.”  Change this.

Please put your name and the period.

Example: Emma’s Blog.  Period 2.

Please make this change A.S.A.P.

Question: How do I find my partner? 

Answer:  First, you have to know their user name.  Once you know their user name, follow these steps.

            -Click on “My Dashboard”

            -“Visit Site”

            -Then look up in the URL bar (navigation bar).  Delete YOUR user name, and type your partners user name.  After you’ve done this, hit enter.

-This will bring you to your partner’s wordpress.  Now, scroll up to the top of their page, it says “Blog Info.”  Scroll down and click on “Add to Blogroll.”

**Please note:  Click on “Add to Blogroll” 3 or 4 times.  For some reason, it does not always work the first time.

Now your friend is on YOUR blogroll located on your wordpress page.

MAKE SURE YOU ADD ME!!!!

Question: How do I post?

Answer:

First, click on “New Post” (Grey bar up top).

Next, fill out the subject bar (it’d be best to use your assignment as the subject)

Then, type your assignment

Finally, hit publish (blue button located on the left side (your right) of the screen)

Question: How do I respond?

Answer: Check your partner’s wordpress often.  Once they’ve posted, you must read and respond to the post.  You respond by hitting comment and typing 3-4 sentences.

As other questions come up, I’ll be sure to post them on my page.  Before you submit a question, please browse my page to see if I’ve already posted the question with the answer.  When it comes to questions about, “How do I decorate my site? (change background, change font size, change heading, upload pictures, ect…)”  I’m not going to answer those because it’s not part of the requirement.  Please, ask a friend.

Be sure to check my page OFTEN.  This will update you!

For some reason, when you “subscribe to blog” it does not send the person a notification that you’ve subscribed.  Instead, just follow the instructions on my previous post, but only hit “add to blogroll”–remember they (your partner) will still have to subscribe to your page.

At some point, please send me an e-mail with your blog’s name (how it appears in the url, or send me the url).  After I receive it, I will subscribe to your blog.

I hope you’re starting to get use to your wordpress.  Once you’ve found me, go to “Blog Info” (in the upper right hand corner of the screen (your right)) and click on “Add to Blogroll.”

Then view your page.  You’ll see that I am on the side bar.  Repeat this with your partner.  Also, be sure to check my page.  Eventually, all students will be on my page–so you’ll be able to see other blogs!

Another way to find your partner is to look up their e-mail.  

Don’t fret if you cannot get this going by Monday.  Just try to get use to the website.
